How this tool works
The transfer calculator converts the file size to bits and divides it by the link speed after a real-world efficiency is applied, because overhead means you never get the full line rate. The bandwidth planner adds typical per-user rates for browsing, video calls, streaming and cameras, then adds 30% headroom.
Common questions
Why is my transfer slower than the link speed?
Protocol overhead, Wi-Fi conditions, disk speed and the remote server all lower the real speed. Wired gigabit usually reaches 90 to 95% of the line rate.
How much bandwidth does a video call use?
A group HD video call typically uses 2 to 4 Mbps in each direction, so ten calls at the same time need roughly 30 Mbps.
What is the difference between Mbps and MBps?
Link speeds are in megabits per second (Mbps) and file sizes in megabytes (MB). One byte is 8 bits, so 100 Mbps is at most 12.5 MB per second.
