How this tool works
Pick the link speed and the distance between the two devices. The selector compares the standard reach of each transceiver type with your distance and fiber type, and lists the options from the simplest to the longest reach. Both ends of a fiber link must use the same standard and wavelength.
Common questions
When should I use a DAC instead of fiber?
A direct attach copper cable is the cheapest and lowest-power option for short links inside a rack or between neighbouring racks, usually up to 3 to 5 metres. Use fiber for longer runs.
What is the difference between SR and LR?
SR modules use multimode fiber for short distances (up to 300 to 400 m at 10G). LR modules use single-mode fiber and reach 10 km.
Can I mix brands?
Often yes, but some switches accept only optics coded for their brand. Send us the exact switch model and we will confirm.
